There are two types of pills
1. Combination pills that contain estrogen and progestin
2. Only progestin-containing pills
A woman takes birth control pills, and finds her weight increase due to other factors. But, she tends to blame the birth control pills for the gain. But, scientific studies have shown that weight gain is not possibly due to birth control pills.
It is probably not the weight gain but the water retention. They may got through water gain, which means that birth control pills lead to fluid retention. Salt intake should be reduced to control this weight gain.
Estrogen-containing pills are known to increase weight in areas like breasts, thighs and hips, if they are on pills for several months. But, these effects are temporary and may last for 2-3 months only.
On the other hand, progestin dominant pills are known to increase weight permanently. This is because these hormones tend to increase the appetite of a person.So if you are taking these pills ensure you are not consuming more calorie than needed.
Scientific studies have shown that there is absolutely no connection between weight gain and birth control pills. It is only a myth in most of the cases.
